Mirka® Galaxy: New high technology abrasive

Mirka Galaxy is a new kind of high technology abrasive. It combines effectiveness with long use life, thanks to a new kind of self-sharpening ceramic grain, a clogging resistant coating and the new Multifit hole configuration.

Non-sticking. Self-sharpening. Long-lasting.

How do you keep an abrasive sharp? Make it re-generating. The ceramic grains used in the Mirka Galaxy are self-sharpening. This means every time an edge of an abrasive grain breaks off, a new cutting edge is simply formed, making it possible for the Galaxy to continue cutting longer and longer.

Key benefits:

  • Long life with a fast cut
  • Dust repellent and clogging resistant
  • Excellent edge wear resistance

The Mirka Galaxy is suitable for various applications from automotive collision repair to marine production as well as the wood sector.

Multifit™: always correctly placed

You can say goodbye to aligning the abrasive. Mirka's new Multifit concept means the abrasive is always correctly placed on any machine, with no need to make it match the holes on the backing pad. With the Galaxy's optimized hole count and superb edge wear resistance, we have created an abrasive that could not be quicker to replace, meaning you can get on with the job - at the same time enabling a perfect balance between long life and dust extraction.

Clogging resistant coating

One of the most important parts of creating a long-life abrasive is to engineer it to resist clogging as much as possible. For Mirka Galaxy, we have chosen a special clogging resistant coating, which improves dust repellence. As the dust doesn't stick onto the abrasive, it is more effectively removed from the working surface and extracted via the Multifit holes, making the Galaxy an integral part of Mirka's dustless sanding approach. With dust removed from the picture, the abrasive can continue to cut for a longer time.

Multi-purpose abrasive

Every aspect of the Mirka Galaxy serves together to turn it into a real multi-purpose abrasive. It is suitable for sanding both soft and hard materials as well as various substrates, thanks to its excellent clogging resistance and dust repellence. By nature, the Mirka Galaxy is suitable for various applications from automotive collision repair to marine production as well as the wood sector.

How to stop clogging and dust when sanding

Why is it important to avoid clogging when sanding?

Clogging means that your abrasive becomes saturated with the material that is being removed from the surface. As a result, it cannot sand efficiently anymore, and the residue is moving against the working surface. The sooner this happens, the shorter is the useable life of the abrasive. With a clogging resistant abrasive or one that is easily cleaned, you can continue working with the same abrasive disc for a longer time. This saves money for you in the long run.

How can I make my sandpaper last longer?

The useable life of a sandpaper depends on several factors, which include the material being sanded, the carefulness of the user and the quality of the abrasive. Sanding different materials will have a different effect on the abrasive, but handling the abrasive and the sanding tool carefully will prolong the use-life of both of them. In addition, we have designed the Mirka Galaxy abrasive to have excellent edge wear characteristics, given it a dust-repelling coating and a special ceramic grain that forms new abrasive edges when it wears down so that you can continue sanding for longer.

What is the benefit of dust repellence?

Dust is a natural by-product of sanding, a result of the material being removed from the working surface. It is important to be able to control dust, as it can affect the sanding result as well as your health. When the dust does not stick onto the abrasive, it can be more easily directed into the on-tool dust extraction system, meaning it has the least negative effect on the sanding process or occupational health.
