Key Account Manager, Precision Industries - Texas

This position reports to the Director of North America Sales - Precision Industries. Close cooperation with Mirka Finland PI group and global PI KAM peers will be critical for success.


The primary duty of the Key Account Manager – Precision Industries is to develop new business opportunities, distribution channels, and acquire new customers in defined sector. Additionally, the Key Account Manager will be responsible for reaching or exceeding company sales objectives in focused area.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities


  • Work with Director of North America Sales - Precision Industries and the global MSF Business Development Manager (BDM) to define business targets for Business Plan development.
  • Responsible for defining, developing, communicating, and implementing opportunities/strategies.
  • Identify, initiate, and manage relationships at the top management level within those organizations.
  • Effective utilization, communication, and strategic focus through CRM system.
  • Establish and strengthen long-term and profitable customer relationships with technical decision makers across functions.
  • Develop a strong understanding of customer applications and solutions.
  • Lead all sales efforts and provide customer and technical service / support on all assigned customer accounts and bring opportunities to closure.
  • Plan, execute and follow up sales and marketing activities.
  • Respond to technical issues raised by prospects.
  • Analyze the market for new product opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop sales and marketing programs and tools to capitalize on opportunities and open doors.
  • Participate actively in industry associations relevant to the market segment, professional organizations, or industry groups.
  • Forecast product demand for focus areas.
  • Provide the "voice of the customer" to Company leadership regarding new opportunities, products, applications, prices, trends, competitors etc.
  • Develop and manage appropriate channel(s) to market to support sales efforts.
  • In conjunction with Director of North America Sales - Precision Industries, KAM will develop/assist integration of company resources in the focused areas as appropriate.
  • Work with and the Director of North America Sales - Precision Industries to consolidate ideas and prioritize them based on sales/profit potential.
  • Assist and/or provide input for the development of required sales training systems, selling techniques and systems options.




Qualifications and Competencies (education, experience, skills)

  • Minimum 5 years successful experience in technical B2B sales and key account management-Global footprint and/or multiple sites.
  • Experience with long-term project selling.
  • Proven ability to manage customer relationships, develop business plans, focus on goals and objectives, and deliver results.
  • Excellent verbal, written, visual/presentation skills.
  • Technical capability to develop a strong understanding of customer applications and solutions.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office) and experience working with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
  • Excellent consultative selling skills with proven success working with key accounts.
  • Experience working with customers to optimize their production processes (Lean / Six Sigma knowledge a plus) and value-added sales.
  • Experience presenting to senior customer executives.
  • Ability to develop and nurture executive level contacts (C-Suite) and/or extensive network.
  • Self-motivated, self-starter with intrinsic drive to work independently.
  • Process and application knowledge across relevant industry sectors
  • Experience and understanding of relevant industry standards.
  • Experience in development and conducting training of others.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to conduct research and compile recommendations based on analysis and fact-finding results.
  • Ability to take plans and put them into action and see through to final result.
  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Valid Drivers’ License



Physical Demand/Work Environment

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and lift up to 10 pounds.


When an employee is running a test or doing demonstrations with a customer or while performing a training session, the employee will generally provide a 5–10-minute demonstration of the product which could include standing, squatting, bending at the waist, twisting, and reaching. When the customer takes over the testing, the KAM may be required to stand and watch the testing for as long as eight hours a day.


Variations in the required amount and method of travel may occur, based on need. The overnight travel for this position can be up to 50%-80% of their time. The KAM will travel to individual customers throughout the USA. Periodic additional international travel to parent company will be required. Travel by driving an automobile and/or air travel. On average, the KAM may be required to drive an automobile 2-3 hours at a time. However, based on the distributor/end-user’s physical location, extended driving requirements can be as high as 4-6 hours at a time.


Environment while performing demonstrations/testing in an end-user/customers’ shop or warehouse: generally, no climate control available (climate may vary based on geography of the customer and time of year for example in southern region can be 80-100 degrees Fahrenheit), concrete floors, dusty, machinery indicative of industry (automotive, woodworking, marine, aerospace, etc.) present.
