Mirka Iridium™ Upgraded: More Grits, Enhanced Performance

October 6, 2026

Mirka is launching an updated version of the premium Iridium abrasives, delivering faster sanding processes, improved surface quality, and a complete grit range for collision repair, marine and other applications.

Improved for Faster and More Consistent Cut

One key challenge in sanding is maintaining consistent performance, especially with clogging-prone materials. The upgraded Iridium abrasives address this through improved grain technology and a double dust-repellent surface treatment. Together, these updates improve cutting efficiency over time, reduce build-up during sanding, and deliver more consistent results on materials such as putty, primers, and waterborne coatings.

The grit range has also been revised, and is now complete with grits ranging from 40 to 2500, for a full-process approach within a single product line. Combined with improved cutting consistency, this allows users to skip certain intermediate sanding steps, reducing the number of discs per repair cycle and helping body shops complete repairs faster. In some standard repair processes, you can achieve time savings of up to 15%.

Part of a Broader Shift: Rethinking Abrasives

Earlier this year, Mirka launched the ‘Rethinking Abrasives’ concept. This is a concrete and powerful initiative for reforming the surface treatment industry, and the development, manufacture, use and recycling of abrasives.

Rethinking Abrasives enables customers to choose sandpaper that reduces the carbon footprint and creates healthier working environments, without compromising on performance or sanding quality.

The new Iridium abrasives are a part of this initiative, and a prime example of how Mirka has enhanced an already highly regarded product with 6% bio-based resins, formaldehyde-free production technology, and reduced raw material and energy consumption in manufacturing.
