Preventive Maintenance

How to take care of your Mirka tools

Our tools are made to be used and built to last – still, they need care to give their best. Preventive maintenance is crucial for durability.

General tips

Taking Care of Your Mirka Tool

  • Clean the tool from dust, filler and paint
  • Use Mirka backing pads that are designed for optimal performance
  • Change the backing pad in time as a worn-out pad can increase the vibration level
  • Protect your tool during transportation

How to care for

Pneumatic Sander

Proper maintenance is essential to keep your pneumatic sander performing at its best. In this guide, we will outline when and how to oil and clean your pneumatic sander to prevent premature wear and maintain optimal performance.

Lubrication

  • Regular oiling of your pneumatic sander is crucial for smooth and trouble-free sanding.
  • Ideally, use an FRL (filter, regulator, and lubricator) unit. If not available, follow these steps:
    a. Add two drops of oil into the air inlet
    b. Connect the air hose and run the sander at low RPM for 30 seconds to distribute the oil evenly
    c. Use oil specifically designed for pneumatic tools, either provided with the machine or intended for this purpose
  • Ensure the proper functioning of the drain in your compressed air system

Cleaning

  • Wipe the handle with a cloth to keep it clean and maintain a comfortable grip.
  • Prevent dust and debris accumulation by regularly cleaning the air inlet connection, plug, and coupler.
  •  We recommend cleaning the tool on a regular basis to ensure optimal performance.
  • Periodically check and clean the muffler as needed.

By following these lubrication and cleaning practices, you can maintain the efficiency and longevity of your pneumatic sander.

How to care for

Mirka® Dust Extractor

From utilizing the Push & Clean function to regular filter cleaning and dust bag replacement, following these maintenance practices will help you achieve outstanding results in your sanding projects while prolonging the lifespan of your equipment.

Maintenance

  • Use Push & Clean function regularly (Push & Clean variants only)
  • The effect can be strengthened by blocking the air flow from the hose or the opening in the dust extractor
  • If you sand in extremely dusty environments, try using Mirka's cooling air filter for the 1230 dust extractor
  • Airborne dust accelerates wear in the motor. By filtering cooling air, this can be avoided, prolonging the lifetime of the dust extractor

Filters

  • The filter needs to be cleaned on a daily basis for optimal results
  1. Check and clean the dust filter without removing it
  2. If needed, remove the dust filter and continue cleaning it
  • When needed, change the dust filter
Note: If there is a possibility of hazardous dust, it is important to replace the filter before resuming the use of the dust extractor.

Dust Bags

  • Dust bags are required on all Push & Clean extractors
  • Auto filter clean (AFC) versions can be used without bags but this requires that the AFC function is activated
  • Changing the dust bag: We recommend that you change the dust bag regularly. We suggest you make it a daily, weekly or monthly routine, depending on application

How to care for

Electric Sanders

  • Keep the air channels clean by blowing with compressed air
  • Change of backing pad: Check its condition and if necessary, change the backing pad for optimal sanding performance
  • Use/handling of electric cable: Handle with care, the cable should not be bent and twisted sharply
  • Do not use the cable as a carry handle

How to Care For

Cordless Tools

  • It is important to keep your cordless tool clean and remember to not use over-sized pads
  • Battery: We recommend that you charge the battery regularly
  • Spindle bearing: Check that the spindle bearing rotates easily (Mirka® AROS-B 150NV)
  • Storage: To prolong the lifetime of the battery, avoid storing it in discharged condition

How to care for

Electric Polishers

  • We recommend that you regularly clean the polisher and its ventilation slots. Need for cleaning depends on the material being worked on and duration of use

Please also remember that you should not press down the black and round locking button when the tool is on. Instead, press and hold down the switch. To lock into position, hold down the locking button and release the switch
