Ultimax® Ligno: an all-new Mirka abrasive for woodworking
Resist clogging with the new Mirka Ultimax® Ligno
The new Ultimax® Ligno is tailored for wood sanding applications. It combines a fast cut with long life, thanks to especially good resistance to clogging when sanding substrates.
Made better to perform better
Making the Ultimax Ligno, Mirka takes sustainability into focus. Mirka’s precise, energy saving production process has a significant effect in creating less material waste.
Innovative and Sustainable
Ultimax® Ligno combines innovation with robust consideration for the environment. The production method reduces energy consumption as the process for curing the glue is more efficient. It also has superior adhesion with VOC-free resin, ensuring a safer and healthier choice for both users and the environment.
Carefully selected for optimal cutting performance
The recognisable grain pattern of the Mirka Ultimax Ligno ensures optimal cutting performance with consistent results. The segmented surface increases sanding pressure on each abrasive grain, while directing dust into the channels created in between. Its resistance to clogging prevents swirl marks in the work surface.
In addition, each segment has four sharp corners and two angled surfaces, constantly creating additional cutting edges during sanding. This gives the Ultimax Ligno a consistent fast cut and great sanding results, ready for the next step.
Resistant to Edgewear
While developing Ultimax Ligno, Mirka chose a special latex impregnated paper to prevent edgewear and tearing when sanding edges of wood surfaces. This gives the Ultimax Ligno the desired flexibility and adhesion, resulting in a longer life for each abrasive. Reducing waste starts from the development stage.
Neil talks us through Mirka's newest innovation in woodworking abrasives.
“This is the most exciting abrasive development for the wood sector in many years. Through extensive testing, the R&D team discovered that the ‘hourglass’ shape’s optimal cutting performance for wood sector substrates ensures exceptional sanding results, from start to finish.”

Advanced dust extraction
To resist clogging and speed up the cutting process, Ultimax Ligno utilises Mirka’s groundbreaking Multifit hole pattern. Its dust channels which lead to extraction holes take control of dust, keeping the abrasive grains cutting, and as air circulates under the abrasive it reduces heat during sanding – an important benefit when sanding substrates, which prevents wood dust turning into a clogging putty.
Even larger wood dust particles are not an issue thanks to different width dust channels. Exposure to wood dust is a significant occupational health risk, meaning Ultimax Ligno is designed from the start with Mirka’s dust free sanding technology.
