The World’s First Verified EPD for Sandpaper

Every product has a journey, from the extraction of raw materials, through manufacturing and use, to the end of life. Along the way, choices are made that leave an environmental footprint. Yet understanding that impact has not always been easy.
That is why we have worked with dedication to bring greater transparency to our industry. Today, we are proud to publish the world’s first third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for coated abrasives. Publishing the EPD for our GOLD abrasive discs marks the start of a new era in the surface finishing industry.
The EPD is based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and is carried out according to Product Category Rules (PCRs) developed together with leading partners across the abrasives industry, ensuring that the data is robust, standardised, and comparable worldwide.
‘By making the environmental story of our products visible, we not only support our customers’ green transition by providing insights for more informed decisions. We also drive our own, from choosing better raw materials to improving manufacturing and designing products with lighter footprints,’ says Mirka’s R&D Director, Mats Sundell.

We are committed to extending this approach across the whole product portfolio, ensuring that more products come with transparent, verified data about their environmental impact.
