Business Controller

Loccation: Milton Keynes
Reports to: Managing Director
Contract: Full-time

About the Role
Mirka UK is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Business Controller to play a pivotal role in driving the financial health and operational effectiveness of our organisation. Working closely with the Managing Director and Senior Management Team, you will lead financial strategy, ensure strong governance and compliance, and support key operational initiatives that enable long-term business success.
This role is ideal for someone who is analytical, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where they can make a visible impact.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Lead and manage all financial operations, including company accounts, payroll, pensions, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, management accounts, and statutory financial reports.
  • Conduct financial analysis, monitor KPIs, and provide performance insights.
  • Oversee AP/AR processes and month-end/year-end close in accordance with accounting standards.
  • Evaluate financial risks, identify cost efficiencies, and support investment decision-making.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure adherence to HMRC requirements, tax laws, GDPR, ISO standards, and statutory regulations.
  • Act as the primary contact for internal and external audits.
  • Maintain the organisation’s risk register, and oversee health & safety, COSHH, and environmental reporting.
  • Act as the Data Controller for Mirka UK, ensuring GDPR compliance.

Business Administration

  • Manage business administrative functions including payroll, pensions, insurance, and third‑party contracts.
  • Oversee lease negotiations and support administrative process improvements.

Strategic & Operational Support

  • Support business planning, budgeting cycles, and project management activities.
  • Provide monthly financial and operational updates to senior leadership.
  • Monitor departmental budgets and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with the Sales Team on rebate processes and documentation.

About You

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical, budgeting, and forecasting skills.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Expertise in financial reporting, modelling, and internal controls.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Commercially aware with the ability to identify opportunities that support profitability and growth.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities.

Preferred Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a Business Controller, Finance Manager, or Operations-focused financial role.
  • Degree or professional qualification in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting.
  • Experience using Unit4/Agresso, SAP, Xero, or similar financial systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Project Management qualification (advantageous but not essential).
