Mirka strengthens its global sustainability role through participation in the newly established Plastic Repair Alliance Council. This coalition of industry leaders in collision repair is committed to promoting sustainability and setting new, global standards in plastic repair.
Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste are created as damaged car parts are discarded rather than repaired. This is a problem. As plastic components such as bumpers, headlights, and trims have become the most commonly changed parts in today’s vehicles, the lack of consistent, worldwide repair standards is another problem.
To address these issues Plasnomic, an emerging authority on plastic repair, has brought together high-profile representatives from across the collision repair ecosystem to form the Plastic Repair Alliance Council. This global council comprises senior leaders and technical experts from some of the most influential organisations in the industry, including Mirka, 3M, PPG, Polyvance, ARA, AkzoNobel, Caliber Collision, Boyd Group, SEM and others.
Leonardo Gómez, business sector manager at Mirka and a member of the newly established council, expects the collaboration to support both the collision repair industry and wider sustainability goals.
‘It is a great honour for me to represent Mirka in the newly formed Plastic Repair Alliance Council. At Mirka, we believe that progress comes from partnership, and this initiative is a perfect example of how we can join forces to drive innovation and set new standards for the benefit of the global collision repair industry.’
The Plastic Repair Alliance Council is a diverse coalition that spans multiple regions, including Europe, North America, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Australia. The goal is to raise global repair standards and reduce plastic waste. The council and its strategic partners will pursue this goal through unified training and certification programs, as well as by identifying specialized tools, materials, and repair methods.
