Southampton International Boat Show

Mirka UK will be focusing on innovation at the 2024 Southampton Boat Show with live demonstrations of the Mirka LEROS-S and Polarshine® 45 polishing compound - the latest addition to Mirka’s Polarshine product portfolio.

The Mirka® LEROS-S 950CV (LEROS-Short) is designed for a variety of industrial applications where time is of the essence. The new LEROS-Short combines the innovative features of the original LEROS, including a sanding head with 180° flexibility and a 5mm random orbital movement, in a more compact design that makes sanding in confined spaces easier, more efficient and dust-free.

When combined with Mirka’s dust-free net abrasives and suitable dust extraction, the LEROS-Short provides virtually dust-free sanding. It has dual suction points for dust removal, so the work environment, is cleaner and healthier for both the customer and user. In addition, maintenance of the tool is minimised as there are no carbon brushes to be changed.

The cleverly designed Mirka Long Fileboards (Fairing boards) will also be on display. The fairing boards come in three different models and two different lengths:  1600mm rigid, 1600mm flexible, and 680mm rigid, to suit a variety of surfaces including flat, curved, large or small. They are very effective when combined with Mirka® Galaxy, AbranetÒ, and Abranet ACE abrasive rolls, providing cutting-edge abrasion while virtually eliminating dust because of the Long Fileboards’ integrated dust extraction device that simply fits to a dust extractor.

Polarshine® 45 has been designed and developed by Mirka’s R&D department in Jeppo, Finland to meet the marine sector’s need for a coarser and faster compound. It is suitable for hard surfaces and coatings, and provides a deep gloss finish, which enables boat builders and yards to offer a high-quality end product in a shorter time to the customer.

Supplementing the new polishing compound and abrasives on display will be a selection of Mirka’s tools headlined by the Mirka® DEOS sander, the only electric orbital sander on the market that has been optimised for net abrasives by incorporating more than 45 holes in the pad. In addition, its ergonomic design enables users to get closer to the surface, easily accessing hard to reach areas and delivering a flawless smooth finish. Other sanders on display will include the Mirka® DEROS and its cordless sanders, the Mirka® AOS-B 130NV and Mirka® AROS-B 150NV.

Pete Sartain, national sales manager industrial for Mirka UK, says, “The marine sector is a growing opportunity for Mirka, so as a brand we decided to attend the Southampton Boat Show for the first time as part of our strategic plans to increase our market share. We see the show as the perfect platform for our team to debut the new Polarshine 45 polishing compound to engaged visitors that will require this product for projects they are working on. In addition, we will be offering visitors that come by our stand a direct insight into our wide ranging product portfolio and highlighting how the R&D team has developed tools and abrasives that meet their needs and requirements, while providing a dust-free environment to work in.”
