Why does my extractor make a banging sound

Mirka 1230 M (AFC) dust extractors have an auto filter cleaning mechanism which works by banging the dust out of the filter periodically.

It is possible to turn the auto filter cleaning off by selecting either of the below positions on the dial, depending on whether you would like to use the auto-start function or not.
