The Process
From raw pour to glass-smooth, in six steps
1/6 - Step 1
Build the form
Create the form and silicone joints for a rounded edge and prevent leaks.
2/6 - Step 2
Pour concrete mixture
Mix and pour UHPC (ultra-high-performance concrete) into the form. After pouring the concrete mixture, carfully submerge basalt mesh/and or FRP rods to provide added strength.
3/6 - Step 3
Fill in small holes
Remove form work. Fill any pin holes with a concrete slurry.
4/6 - Step 4
Sand surface
Sand surface with Mirka® DEROS II and Abranet® P240 150mm discs.
5/6 - Step 5
Sand edges
Use Mirka Irdium™ Soft Hand Pads to finish the edges. Clean surface after sanding before applying the sealant
6/6 - Step 6
Add a sealant
Apply four applications of sealant to protect the concrete surface. Use a ICT reactive sealant to provide added protection

What abrasives can I use on polished concrete furniture for a smooth finish?
Mirka Abranet has been specifically designed for dry sanding a wide range of materials, including UHPC concrete. It's dust-free capabilities make it ideal for a healthier, cleaner work environment as well as a better surface finish.
Due to its soft flexible backing material, Mirka Iridium Soft Hand pads are ideal for rounding edges for a more profiled finish.
What is the best grit for sanding polished concrete furniture?
Using a medium grit of 240 offers a good balance of removing any imperfections whilst maintaining smooth finish.
